You use partition walls as a means to make several smaller blocks from a standard concrete block mould. 

By placing one or more partial walls between the ridges in the concrete block mold you therefore create a partial shape.
Half blocks are needed at the end of a straight wall, but other shapes are also possible, for example a sloping or stair form.
